Ricardo Arias: “Playing the first match at Mestalla is a big boost - we have to take advantage of it”
The Valencia CF legend and Club ambassador reacts to the LALIGA EA SPORTS 2025/26 fixture list on L’Informatiu on VCF Media Radio.
One of the initiatives adopted by the VCF Footballers Association consists of providing a kit composed of gloves and a mask to all members of the collective, the A-Ball team members, children who form part of the 8-a-side school, Futsal Academy players and those at the Football Academy in Romania, as president Fernando Giner explained on Friday.
How did the initiative come about?
"Helping people is good, and we are collaborating with the Cruz Roja, but at the same time we were thinking that we could help the young people in our schools and the older people in our association, who are an 'at-risk' group for catching this virus. We thought about the need to offer them gloves and masks for the first few days in which they can go out again, to have a minimal kit for their safety and that of others."
How will the delivery of the kits be made?
"We will do it chronologically, by neccesity. Now the biggest priority are kids up to the age of 14, as from Sunday they will be allowed out again, followed by older people and then everybody else. All members of the Association are going to receive this kit. We are looking after our own, but also helping society however we can."
When was this decision taken?
"We always try to look very far ahead. When this healthcare crisis began, we got in contact with companies who make these products, and 15/20 days ago we ordered them, even though we knew it would be difficult. The materials have arrived and been homologated, both by the Valencian Commerce Commission and the Spanish equivalent, and we've begun delivering them."
How are the older members of the Association?
"We've spoken with them all, and we contact them every week. The majority are fine. We talk about the situation and about what football will be like after this. It's a very important call, above all for those who are older and usually live alone. They can't go out, and it's hard for them to receive visits. The call is something that they value a lot."
